October YAPI News and Notes
It was great to have 6 performers at October YAPI. Kimberley White was a new comer, but everyone else had participated before in the spring. It was great to hear her and we hope she comes back. With the summer break and only one performer in August who was new, and no performers in September, it had been months since we had heard any of these performers. It was very impressive how all who had participated in YAPI before had grown as musicians since the spring!
Natalie Shanklin not only played and sang beautifully as a solo act, but she also played piano for Kenna Thompson as she sang. Spontaneous collaborations like that are so fun! Karlen Thompson played violin solos and she is quickly becoming a great fiddler. Savanna Sultemeier played guitar and sang which was new because she usually plays ukulele. It was fun to learn that she also plays guitar. Cadence Drum played piano duets with Brenda at YAPI for the first time and he did a great job. He played drum at YAPI in the spring so he, too, is expanding his musical skills.
We are holding at $287 in the YAPI Piano fund. Donations are welcomed. We need $313 to get the piano that would serve YAPI very well.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the sound equipment at May YAPI. Many people helped and it was greatly appreciated. A great big “thank you” to DuAnne Redus, owner of Maui Wowi, for being so supportive and for providing an appropriate venue supporting YAPI since 2006! Also, thanks to Maui Wowi barista, Marley, for being so supportive!
