April YAPI News and Notes
April YAPI was filled with variety including Karlen Thompson playing mandolin, harmonica and guitar and throughout the evening. Savanna Sultemeier played ukulele, and we even had a Cadence Drum playing an African rhythm on djembe. Karlen invited Cadence to play with her. It’s always fun when YAPI participants team up to play together. Kenna Thompson sang beautifully. As Kenna gains confidence, her beautiful voice comes out more and more. It was great to hear Ryland Maples again. She sang at one other YAPI and this 11 year old performer sings and plays guitar like a pro!
YAPI needs a new piano! Brenda mentioned that she was thinking about taking donations and by the end of the night she had been donated $59 dollars toward a new keyboard for YAPI! Later she received another s$20 donation for a total of $79! All donations are welcomed! Thanks so much for such support of the Young Artist Performance Incubator.
This year there will be a Young Artist Performance Incubator at the Kerrville Folk Festival! The performers, age 18 and under, will get in free but the required accompanying parent or guardian for the 17 and under people will need to buy a day ticket. For that ticket, the youth get to participate in YAPI and both people get to enjoy all the performances that day. It’s highly likely that it might be on a Saturday which means there will many performances to see. If you’d like to participate in the Kerrville Folk Festival YAPI event, contact Brenda
Thanks to everyone who helped with the sound equipment at April YAPI. Many people helped and it was greatly appreciated. A great big “thank you” to DuAnne Redus, owner of Maui Wowi, for being so supportive and for providing an appropriate venue supporting YAPI since 2006!
